RULES OF CONDUCT

Conduct Matters (it really does . . . )

We facilitate helping one another — toward better lives. Obviously, being unfriendly and adversarial is not the best route. Accordingly, here are a few relatively short rules:

  • Do not share personal information.

  • Do not harass or give unwanted sexual attention.

  • Avoid demeaning cultural, racist or sexist comments.

  • And please — try to avoid contentious politics.

There are other unwritten rules, but they likely do not need to be said. Overall, just be nice . . .  Most of us know what that means.

And as to the rule for politics, each of us have ideas on how to make a better world. But can we try to build a few bridges? There is more than one way to cross a river.

As this is a lightly moderated forum, should you feel annoyed or threatened by another, try to carefully right the problem yourself. However, the organizers will try to make reasonable attempts to facilitate “situations” when possible, so please communicate “infractions” of conduct — preferably before they become too volatile.

If you act badly and continually offend the standards of conduct, you will be asked to leave. Tolerance is good, but there are limits. So speak up if something bothers you.

But try to give some leeway to a misplaced thought or comment — no one is perfect. Overall, let's build an environment of some mutual trust — we need a bit more of that.

Again . . . be nice . . . be respectful.

It's not rocket science.

SUGGESTIONS TOWARD A BETTER WORLD:

     . . . definitely not rocket science.

  • Call that aunt of yours - she needs a phone call. I know it is always the same conversation - but hey...

  • Put a Co-op plastic bag in your pocket - it makes it easier to pick up some trash when out walking.

  • Shoveling walks or driveways. There are lots of people who would really appreciate some help.

  • Adopt an alleyway & remove some of the weeds &  trash. Beautify the neighbourhood some.

  • Leave a space in traffic for someone else. It's easy. Who knows, you might even get a wave.

  • Make a few cookies and drop them off to your neighbour. Maybe even find a new friend.

  • Give a talk to a group about how you do meditation to relieve anxiety and get to sleep.

  • Write a well-considered editorial to a newspaper or better yet, your elected leaders.

  • For the next meeting you attend, do some extra preparation and then share more.

  • Write a thank you to someone. Surely there is someone that deserves a note.

  • Judge at the Calgary Youth Science Fair. Or give similar support there.

  • Open a door for someone and say thank you. Not rocket science.

  • Or just smile a tad more today. Definitely not rocket science.

  • Donate some $$ to a favorite charity. Wikipedia even.

  • Help an elderly neighbour. Do some yardwork.

  • Go for a walk with a friend or neighbour.

If you want a better world . . .
